Sindh Solar Scheme by Sindh Government Announces Affordable Solar Energy Initiative
KARACHI: Following the Punjab government’s lead, the Sindh government, headed by Syed Murad Ali Shah, has announced a plan to provide affordable electricity to over 200,000 households in the province, according to ARY News.
In collaboration with the World Bank, the Sindh government will offer a complete solar system to each household for just Rs. 7,000. The director of the Sindh Solar Energy Project stated that the system will include solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries.
Project Details
Cost and Equipment:
- Each household will receive the complete solar setup for Rs. 7,000.
- The system can power one fan and three LED bulbs.
Installation Phases:
- Phase 1: 50,000 households in Karachi.
- Phase 1: 150,000 households in other parts of Sindh.
Funding and Expansion:
- The World Bank has allocated USD 32 million for this project.
- There is potential for the project to expand further.
Current Solar Power Generation:
- Sindh is currently generating 400 megawatts of electricity from solar panels.
Punjab’s Solar Initiative
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the provision of 1kV solar systems to 50,000 families. This decision was made during a meeting focused on reviewing energy projects in the province. The solar systems will be provided to power consumers using less than 100 electricity units per month.
Equipment and Eligibility:
- The package includes two solar plates, batteries, an inverter, and wires.
- The project excludes households involved in electricity theft or meter tampering.
Pilot Project:
- The Punjab CM has directed the administration to ensure the quality of products and initiate the pilot project promptly.
