About UNICEF’s Work in Pakistan:
Pakistan was among the first countries to sign and ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. Despite this, many children and adolescents in Pakistan still face significant challenges. UNICEF partners with the Government of Pakistan to accelerate progress for children, aiming to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensure children’s rights. This includes working with provincial authorities, health professionals, communities, families, and the children themselves to address the following key areas:
- Ensuring every child survives and thrives with access to healthcare, immunization, and nutritious food.

Job Title: Nutrition Officer (NOB)

Location: Karachi, Pakistan
Job Objective:
The Nutrition Officer will provide technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for nutrition programs/projects in Sindh. This involves supporting from planning to delivery of results, managing program implementation, monitoring progress, evaluating outcomes, and reporting results.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Development and Planning:
- Conduct situation analyses for the nutrition sector to inform program development and management.
- Research trends (e.g., political, social, economic, health) to aid in efficient program delivery.
- Contribute to establishing program goals and strategies based on the analysis of nutrition needs.
- Assist in results-based planning and monitoring of nutrition-related projects.
- Collaborate with government departments (Health, AAP, P&D Department, SUN Secretariat) for nutrition intervention mapping.
- Develop annual work plans and provide technical support throughout the project life cycle.
2. Program Management, Monitoring, and Delivery of Results:
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to address operational challenges and propose solutions.
- Monitor and evaluate program progress and ensure compliance with organizational rules and donor commitments.
- Participate in field visits to monitor project implementation and address issues.
- Prepare program reports for management, donors, and partners, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Promote nutrition and development issues through discussions with national partners and stakeholders.
3. Technical and Operational Support for Program Implementation:
- Conduct regular field visits and surveys to assess program progress and provide technical support.
- Offer operational support to government counterparts, NGOs, and UN partners.
- Coordinate with the Government of Sindh to establish program oversight mechanisms.
- Support public health campaigns, such as Global IDD Day and Breastfeeding Week, by organizing seminars and awareness activities.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating program data, including rolling out DHIS2 Nutrition to streamline data collection.
4. Networking and Partnership Building:
- Build strong partnerships with government counterparts, national stakeholders, and other UN agencies.
- Advocate for nutrition programs by developing communication materials to promote awareness and foster partnerships.
- Represent UNICEF at inter-agency meetings to coordinate provincial nutrition programs and harmonize strategies.
5. Innovation, Knowledge Management, and Capacity Building:
- Identify and share lessons learned to enhance program effectiveness.
- Support the planning and implementation of nutrition surveys and assessments.
- Promote innovative approaches and good practices to improve program results.
- Organize training programs to build the capacity of government and partner staff in nutrition-related areas.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, epidemiology, health sciences, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in nutrition or public health program management, preferably in developing countries.
- Experience in a UN system agency or similar international organization is an asset.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
