Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation Announces Multiple Job Openings for Major Improvement Project

Karachi, Pakistan – The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) is seeking qualified professionals to join its Project Implementation Unit (PIU) for the Karachi Water & Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP). This initiative, funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the Government of Sindh, aims to significantly enhance water and sewerage services in the city.

KW&SC has issued a “Request for Expression of Interest (REOI)” for several individual consultant positions. Interested candidates must submit their applications via courier by September 5, 2025.

New Environmental Specialist Vacancies (2 Positions)

The project is looking to hire two Environmental Specialists, each with a distinct area of expertise.

Position 1: Environmental Specialist (Botany Focus)

  • Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field. A specialization in Botany is preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), and Health, Safety, and Quality (HSE&Q) management, particularly within the water and sanitation sector or other large infrastructure projects. Experience with the World Bank or other multilateral organizations is a significant advantage.

Position 2: Environmental Specialist (Zoology Focus)

  • Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, with a preferred specialization in Zoology.

  • Experience: At least five years of experience in EIAs, EMPs, and HSE&Q planning and implementation on large-scale infrastructure projects. Previous work in biodiversity management and with international donors will be considered an asset.

Social Development Specialist Careers (2 Positions)

Two positions are available for Social Development Specialists to engage with communities and manage the social aspects of the project.

  • Qualifications: A Master’s degree or higher in social sciences such as development studies, sociology, human geography, urban studies, or anthropology.

  • Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in community work, stakeholder engagement, and the development of mobilization strategies. Experience in resettlement management, social safeguards, and working on infrastructure projects in urban settings is highly desirable. Prior work on resettlement or social risk management in projects funded by International Financial Institutions (IFIs) is an added advantage.

Junior Financial Management Specialist Opportunity (1 Position)

This role is ideal for an emerging finance professional looking to contribute to a major public sector project.

  • Qualifications: At least a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline from an HEC-recognized university. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CA (inter), ACCA (Part-Qualified), or ICMA will be considered an advantage.

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant experience in financial management, accounting, budgeting, or auditing, preferably in public sector or donor-funded projects. Familiarity with the financial management practices of the World Bank or other multilateral development partners is highly desirable.
