Apple experienced a significant setback in global iPhone shipments, with a nearly 10% decline in the latest quarter, according to a recent research report.
Apple Technology Jobs
Although global smartphone shipments saw a 7.8% increase, driven primarily by Chinese smartphone makers, Samsung outpaced Apple’s shipments by 10 million units during the first three months of the year.
This decline marks another blow for Apple, as iPhone shipments dropped while global smartphone shipments surged. South Korea’s Samsung reclaimed its position as the top smartphone maker, surpassing Apple’s shipments by a significant margin, a position it had lost in the previous quarter of 2023.
iPhone shipments are closely monitored as they constitute a substantial portion of Apple’s revenue. The company’s most recent quarterly report indicated that iPhone sales amounted to $69.7 billion, with services following closely at $23.1 billion.
Apple faces various challenges, including declining iPhone sales in crucial markets like China and setbacks such as discontinuing its electric vehicle project after a decade of development. Additionally, like other major tech companies, Apple is grappling with legal issues, including an antitrust lawsuit filed by the US Justice Department.
Despite Apple and Samsung both experiencing negative growth in the first quarter, the overall smartphone market showed signs of recovery, with global shipments increasing for the third consecutive quarter by 7.8% year-over-year. This rebound indicates a shift in power among the top smartphone companies, with Samsung appearing to be in a stronger position compared to recent quarters.
When did Apple become popular
While Apple and Samsung witnessed declines in year-on-year shipments, Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and Transsion saw significant increases of approximately 34% and 85%, respectively, compared to the same quarter last year, as reported by IDC.
