Additionally, pregnant women and lactating mothers, along with children under 2 years of age, will be provided with special nutritious food to ensure their healthy growth and development.
Note: Important Information on Malnutrition
According to a food security survey conducted in March 2018, approximately 40% of children under 5 years of age suffer from stunted growth (their height is less than their age). Furthermore, approximately 18% of children under 5 years of age have low weight for their height. Similarly, malnutrition is also observed in pregnant women and lactating mothers.
The first 1000 days of a child’s life (from conception to two years of age) are crucial for their mental and physical growth and development. Therefore, the Government of Pakistan, through BISP, has launched the “Nashonuma” program for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under two years of age to ensure they receive appropriate nutritious food, playing a key role in their healthy mental and physical development.
