Sindh Launches Landmark Free Electric Bike Scheme for 10,000 Women Industrial Workers
Sindh, Pakistan – In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering its female workforce, the Government of Sindh has officially launched a major scheme to distribute 10,000 free electric bikes to women industrial workers across the province. The registration process has officially begun, marking a significant step towards enhancing mobility, ensuring safety, and promoting economic independence for thousands of working women.
This pioneering program, announced by Sindh Labour Minister Shahid Thaheem, is designed to directly address the daily transportation hurdles faced by women in the industrial sector. By providing a reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly mode of transport, the government is not only supporting its female citizens but also investing in the overall productivity and sustainability of the province’s economy.
A Major Leap Towards Women’s Empowerment and Sustainable Mobility
The free electric bike scheme is a multi-faceted initiative with far-reaching benefits. It represents a forward-thinking policy that simultaneously champions women’s empowerment, social equity, and environmental responsibility. As Minister Shahid Thaheem rightly stated, “Women make up half the population. No country can progress without empowering its women.” This program is a tangible expression of that commitment.
The initiative aims to break down the barriers that often limit women’s participation and retention in the workforce. For many, the daily commute is a significant source of financial strain and safety concerns. A personal electric bike offers a direct solution, providing a safe, independent, and economical alternative to often overcrowded and unreliable public transport. This newfound mobility is expected to lead to greater financial savings for families, increased punctuality at work, and a greater sense of security for women traveling to and from their workplaces.

This transparent approach is crucial for building public trust and ensuring the scheme’s integrity.
A Broader Commitment to Worker Welfare in Sindh
This electric bike scheme is part of a larger vision by the Government of Sindh to improve the lives and working conditions of its labor force. According to Workers Welfare Board Sindh Secretary Rafiq Qureshi, on the instructions of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, other significant welfare measures are also being enhanced.
The death grant for workers is being increased from Rs. 700,000 to Rs. 1 million.
The marriage grant is being raised from Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 500,000.
These measures, combined with the e-bike initiative, represent “a new hope and a promise of a brighter future for the rights and welfare of workers,” said Qureshi. This holistic approach aims to improve living standards and pave the way for sustainable development in education, housing, health, and energy for the working class of Sindh.
